Parish Plan

Why a Parish Plan?

The plan is the authorised document expressing the needs and wishes of the population of Woolaston. It is reviewed regularly as circumstances change.
The Parish Plan is used in discussion with other public bodies over any matters of concern to the village.

How was the Parish Plan produced?

In 2002 the Parish Appraisal asked every household within Woolaston and those up to 18 years of age for their views and opinions. More than 51% of the population responded.

Data was analysed and the Woolaston Village Appraisal Report was published in early '03. Copies may still be available by contacting one of the Parish Councillors.

The next phase in the appraisal process was the writing of the Parish Plan. Public consultations took place and the Parish Plan was adopted by the Parish Council on 7th April 04.

As with any plan which projects for future needs. there have been some circumstantial changes. The building of a new hall and community centre is now a reality. It opened in May 2006. The village shop unfortunately ceased trading in January 2006. There were some changes to membership of the Parish Council. These items are described in more detail in the appropriate plan_coverlinks.

The Woolaston Village Appraisal and Parish Plan were carried out with support from Gloucesterhire Rural Community Council and the The Countryside Agency as part of a scheme called Vital Villages. Vital Villages helps small rural communities like Woolaston plan for the future.

The basis - the 2002 Village Appraisal.
As a starting point for any plan, it is wise to research the factors which may influence the plan and its contents.
A village appraisal was conducted by circulating every house in the civil parish with a packet containing questionnaires. There was a very satisfactory response.
The results were collated and published in the Woolaston Village Appraisal Report mentioned near the top of this page.
